Shiraz Ahmed: This World

This World is a short observational documentary film telling the stories of Triangle area Muslims as they navigate difficult questions in response to the Israeli-led and American-funded genocide in Gaza. This film operates as a study of American Muslim life when many are debating what the inability of the ummah to stop the violence signifies about Muslims' political priorities, power and salience as part of a broader electorate. This work is both a corrective on Western media representations of Muslims as either terrorists or terrorized and embraces agency on the part of some who are unwilling to fit into the dichotomy of what is 'American' and what is 'Muslim.'
